MVA/Public Safety 151 I-5 Northbound

At 1000 (10:00am) North Douglas County Fire & EMS was dispatched to a Motor Vehicle Accident with down powerlines milepost 151 I-5 northbound.

A single semi cargo trailer ran off the Highway puncturing both fuel tanks and striking a power pole that was in a farmer’s field. Northbound and Southbound lanes of I-5 were immediately closed due to multiple lines down. Douglas Electric Co. was dispatched to de-energize the lines and clear the freeway allowing crews to reopen I-5 just over 15 minutes of the closure.

An estimated 300 gallons of diesel spilled causing ODOT to dispatch Hazmat teams to the location. Hazmat crews will work over the next few days to clean the spill. The driver of the semi refused medical treatment on scene.

North Douglas County Fire & EMS responded with three engines, one ambulance and seven firefighters.
