At 4:45am, Sunday, September 6, 2020, North Douglas County Fire & EMS was dispatched to a report of a possible fire inside the garage of a single-story family dwelling in the 500 block of Alta Vista Ave. in Drain. 911 Dispatch was able to confirm all residents evacuated the house, and that the house was full of smoke. Fire personnel were able to see flames up to .25 miles away while en route to the station.
Engine 2331 arrived on scene finding the garage fully involved with fire rapidly spreading to the rest of the residence. Fire crews started their initial attack to stop the fire spread to the rest of the structure. Engine 2332 arrived on scene just after 2331 and supplied the scene with a line from a nearby hydrant. Additional personnel arrived on engine 2341 and assisted first in units. Assistant Fire Chief Grimes established command and requested mutual aid from Oakland Rural Fire and South Lane Fire & Rescue. After an hour of continuous fire battle, crews stopped forward spread of the fire and began mop-up.
The cause of the fire and the estimated cost of damages is currently under investigation.
