Fatal Structure Fire 3700 Block Hayhurst Rd.

At 10:22am Monday, June 1, 2020, North Douglas County Fire & EMS was dispatched to a report of a possible structure fire in the 3700 block of Hayhurst Rd. in Yoncalla. Dispatch had received information second hand of an unknown type fire/house filled with smoke. Dispatch received additional information that a teenage old girl had been unaccounted for.

Medic-231 was the first to arrive to a two-story family dwelling with heavy smoke coming from the 2nd story. Medical crews swiftly searched around the house and at nearby neighbors to see if the girl had made it out. First in fire personnel initiated search and rescue tactics and requested additional assistance from neighboring fire districts. Firefighters located the girl inside the house unconscious during their search sweeps. The teenager was then rushed to PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center at Riverbend in Eugene where she passed away.

The cause of the fire is currently being investigated by the Oregon State Fire Marshal’s Office.
