Cedar Street Duplex Fire

At 8:38 pm, Monday, October 3, 2022, North Douglas County Fire & EMS was dispatched to a report of a structure fire in the 700 block of Cedar Street in Yoncalla. Nearby volunteer firefighters were first on scene to provide scene size up and establish command of the scene for incoming units.

Due to a city wide water issue, water tenders were requested immediately to assist in fire combat in order to not disrupt the recovering city system. Water tenders from North Douglas, Oakland, Elkton, and Sutherlin assisted with water shuttle from Drain to Yoncalla.

Fire crews contained the fire within minutes to a single duplex and eliminated the opportunity of fire spread to an additional duplex unit, one residential house, one shop, and nearby pasture. Fire crews remained on scene for overhaul and mop-up for 3 hours. The structure was monitored through the night.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Oregon State Fire Marshal.

North Douglas County Fire & EMS was assisted by Elkton Rural Fire, Oakland Rural Fire, Sutherlin City Fire, South Lane Fire & Rescue, Douglas County Sheriff's Office, Douglas Electric, and City of Yoncalla Public Works.

One resident was transported and evaluated for smoke inhalation. The duplex is a complete loss.
