Natural Cover Fire Mile Post 166 I-5 Southbound


At 1700 North Douglas County Fire & EMS was dispatched to a report of a Natural Cover Fire near mile post 166 southbound on I-5. Fire crews were able to gain first access from I-5 as additional resources gained access Longview Ln. The Douglas Forest Protective Association automatically deployed multiple units as well as Roseburg Dozer and two helicopters. NDCFEMS requested mutual aid from South Lane Fire & Rescue to assist in firefighting efforts.

Fire crews arrived to a one acre fire burning in moderate brush moving toward timber on the west side of I-5 near mile post 166 southbound. Fire crews worked rapidly to stop forward spread of the fire and requested a third helicopter to assist in fire suppression. At around 1837 DFPA had reported the forward progression of the fire had been stopped. Fire crews from the Douglas Forest Protective Association and North Douglas County Fire & EMS will continue to work tonight and tomorrow on containment lines and mop up. The estimated fire size is 3 acres with no structures damaged.
