The Douglas Forest Protective Association and North Douglas County Fire and EMS stopped a 1 acre fire northeast of Drain, Friday evening. Fire crews responded to the area of Lowe Road at approximately 6:25 pm and found the fire burning grass, brush and trees near a power line right-of-way. Vehicle access to the fire area was limited so crews had to hike into the fire and install hose lays to get water to the fire. DFPA’s helicopter was also used to slow the spread of the fire, however, crews could only utilize the helicopter for a short period of time before it had to depart due to nightfall coming. Fire crews remained on scene of the fire late into the night, securing control lines and mopping up hot spots. No structures were threatened by the fire and no injuries were reported. The cause of the Lowe Road fire is currently under investigation.
