Updated: Aug 25, 2020

On July 19, 2016 at 5:33pm North Douglas County Fire & EMS was dispatched to the report of a possible structure fire in the area of Division Avenue in Drain. Upon arrival crews found a two story house at 718 Division Avenue with heavy smoke and flames coming from the rear of the residence as well as the middle of the roof. Initial reports indicated that nobody currently lived at the residence. Firefighters began their attack from the outside of the structure and were hindered in their efforts by the massive amount of vegetation that had grown up around the structure. Firefighters were on scene for about an hour before the fire was declared under control. North Douglas County Fire & EMS responded to the alarm with three fire engines, one brush unit, one ambulance, and a total of 22 personnel. They were assisted by Douglas Forest Protective Association, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, and the City of Drain. One firefighter was treated on scene for dehydration. The cause of the fire is still under investigation and is being investigated by the Oregon State Fire Marshal’s Office. There were no initial estimates on the value of the residence but the residence is considered to be a total loss.
