At 1909 March 14, 2017 North Douglas County Fire & EMS was dispatched to a report of a motor vehicle accident around the 3000 block of Hayhurst Rd. A passerby called 911 and reported a single vehicle was off the roadway about 10ft down the bank with heavy damage.
The first arriving engine was on scene in just over five minutes and discovered a single vehicle wrapped around a tree about 25ft down the bank. Crews quickly went to work in an effort to make contact with any patients in the vehicle and discovered a single female occupant unresponsive. Firefighters and EMS personnel faced difficulties accessing the patient due to extensive damage to the vehicle. After gaining access to the driver, EMS personnel concluded the drive had died. Fire and EMS crews remained on scene for an additional three hours.
In total North Douglas County Fire & EMS responded with three apparatuses, two ambulances and a total of eight firefighters. North Douglas County Fire & EMS was assisted by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Oregon State Police and Roseburg Towing.
